A Dog of a Different Color
This is a split frame picture showing a sky feature called a "sun dog". Sun dogs are bright spots that can be seen to the side of the sun when ice crystals refract (bend) the light. They will follow the sun through the sky like a good dog follows it's master. Usually they are a whitish color. This one, seen over Connors Farm in Danvers, MA was brightly colored, although small. The top section shows the whole sky with the sun hidden behind the clouds to the left with the sun dog on the right. The bottom of the panel shows the details and colors.
